High arcan Wheel of Fortune and high arcan Devil combination - possible gambling addiction
Wheel of Fortune tarot card

Card 1 - Wheel of Fortune

The Wheel of Fortune is one of the most highly symbolic cards in the deck, filled with signs that each have its own meaning. At the center of the card, lies a giant wheel, covered in esoteric symbols. There are different creatures that surround the wheel; the angel, the eagle, the bull and the lion. They are related to four fixed signs in the zodiac - leo, taurus, scorpio and aquarius. These four animals are also representatives for the four evangelists in Christian traditions, which is perhaps the reason that they are all adorned with wings. The books that each of the creatures hold represents the Torah which communicates wisdom and self-understanding. The snake indicates the act of descending into material world. On the wheel itself, rides a sphinx that sits at the top, and what appears to be either a devil, or Anubis himself arising at the bottom. These two Egyptian figures are representative of both the wisdom of the gods and kings (in the case of the sphinx) and the underworld (Anubis). They are rotating forever, in a cycle, and suggests that as one comes up, the other goes down.

Associations:

Similar or supporting cards:
Together with multiple sevens in the reading indicates a cycle change. Similar characteristics, although different meanings, are found with Death and The Tower as they all bring an element of change of an external nature (usually outside of our control).

Opposing or contradictory cards:
nbsp;Hanging Man and Two of Swords (no movement) Four of Pentacles (risk-averse, caution)

Wheel of Fortune combinations
The order of the cards would be important when reading in a simple line, for instance The Tower to Wheel of Fortune could show a turnaround in circumstances such as a blessing in disguise or bounce back from something initially perceived as a catastrophe. However, luck wouldn’t be running on your side if this order were switched (Wheel to The Tower).  With marriage cards it may show a ‘fortunate’ match, or the changing fortunes and circumstances in the lives of those involved due to the pairing.

Devil tarot card

Card 2 - Devil

This card shows the Devil represented in his most well-known satyr form, otherwise known as Baphomet. Along with being half goat and half man, the devil has bat wings and an inverted pentagram on his forehead. He is standing on a pedestal, to which are chained a nude man and woman, as if to show that he has dominion over them. Both the man and the woman have horns, as if to show that the more time they spend with the Devil, the less human they become. The chains make it appear as though the devil has taken them captive. The man has a flame on his tail while a woman has a bowl of grapes on her tail, which symbolizes their addiction to power and finer things in life, respectively.  Looking closely, both the man and the woman don t look happy.  Their individual power has been taken from them, leaving them exposed and ashamed in their nakedness.

Associations:

Similar or supporting cards:
Ten of Wands (feeling weighed down) Nine of Swords (stress and anxiety) Eight of Swords (feeling trapped and restricted) all the secrecy cards (Moon, Five of Swords, High Priestess)

Opposing or contradictory cards:
Temperance (moderation) The Star (hope and optimism)

Devil combinations
Watch for the cards that surround The Devil, the clearest indication of what the problem concerns usually comes from the card that precedes it.   In simple lines or small groups, watch for Five of Swords and The Devil, or The Devil and The Moon, surrounding and either side of another card as it’s usually a sign of deception and dishonesty – the central card would indicate the area of concern. There are too many combinations to list here but those below provide a small flavour of possibilities...
