Cards combination description

Low arcan Four of Pentacles and high arcan Lovers combination - holding back emotionally, perhaps cautious about becoming involved in a relationship.
Four of Pentacles tarot card

Card 1 - Four of Pentacles

This card depicts a man who is sitting on a stool, who is holding onto two pentacles in a very defensive and tight posture. It s almost as if he is hoarding them out of fear of loss. One pentacle is balanced precariously on his head, while another one is tightly clutched between his own hands, and there are two of them which are securely placed underneath his feet. He is making sure that there is absolutely no one touching his coins. At the same time, he is also unable to move because he is holding the coins so tightly. In other words, he is restrained from acting because he is holding too tight to his possessions. To some, money does not always bring freedom.

Lovers tarot card

Card 2 - Lovers

In the Lovers card, the man and the woman in the image are being protected and blessed by an angel above. The couple seems secure and happy in their home, which appears to be the Garden of Eden. The fruit tree with the snake behind the woman is a reference to that story, which tells of humanity's fall into temptation and into the realm of flesh and sensuality. The angel depicted here is Raphael, the angel of air - who is of the same element of the zodiac sign that governs this card: Gemini. Air is associated with mental activity, and communication in particular, which is the foundation for healthy relationships. His blessing seems to give this card a sense of balance and harmony, the symbolization of union in a grand and cosmic sense between two opposing forces.

Associations:

Similar or supporting cards:
Relationship cards are relevant, also when in combination with marriage/commitment cards (see full explanation under The Hierophant) Two of Cups (close loving union).

Opposing or contradictory cards:
The Hermit usually signifies a sense of aloneness. For some the Nine of Pentacles also indicates this, although it can represent financial independence or an independent person, rather than being alone.

Lovers combinations
For a love triangle I’d normally look for secrecy cards in close proximity, plus the addition of a King or Queen Court card (outside the couple in question) may also point to third party involvement, although it can sometimes be outside interference, not always an actual affair etc. The Lovers is an easy card to apply to combinations; try using “love relationship” in application to cards before or after, for instance: Ace of Cups to Lovers would show the start of a new relationship, for a married couple it may show a new beginning that brings happiness to the relationship. As you would expect, lots of Cups combinations…
