Cartão 1 - Hierofante

A carta mostra uma figura religiosa que fica em um ambiente bastante formal, característico de uma igreja. Ele está vestindo três vestimentas elaboradas, designadas para representar os três mundos diferentes. Sua mão direita é levantada adequadamente em um ato de bênção, um sinal de bênção - é a mesma mão que o mago levantou. Por outro lado, ele carrega uma cruz tripla, tradicionalmente associada ao papa. Pensa-se que cada uma das barras horizontais na cruz represente o Pai, o Filho e o Espírito Santo. Abaixo dele, dois acólitos estão sentados, representando a transferência do conhecimento sagrado dentro das instituições. Através desses acólitos, o cartão também passa a representar o caminho do conhecimento e da educação. Esta carta também é conhecida como o Sumo Sacerdote em certos baralhos - assim como o Papa. Ele está agindo como o equivalente masculino de outra carta que é conhecida como Alta Sacerdotisa. Esta carta é governada por Touro.

Cartão 2 - Temperança

An androgynous angel is the first thing you see on the Rider-Waite Temperance card; the angel’s appearance suggests an equilibrium between the sexes. The angel’s robe is simple but in the centre of the cloth lies a bold orange triangle within a square; this shows the Earth’s connection to the holy trinity whilst the glow of the triangle feels welcoming yet instils a prospect of foreboding. The angel’s face is stoic and concentrated, completely focused on exchanging the waters of the two golden cups in their hands; the direction of the water is impossible to determine which symbolises the concept of infinity and union; it can also signify the flow of spiritual awareness we experience on a daily basis as we tune in and out with our higher self.  The angel stands above either a pond or river with one foot gently dipped in the water as the other stands on a patch of dry glass; this represents the duality between the subconscious and the conscious - between dreams and reality. Furthermore, the mountain range on the left contrasts with the meadow on the right symbolising universal experiences and individual tranquillity regardless of location or circumstance.  The illustration presents stability and balance, it brings a sense of serenity to the viewer; the composition of bright greens, yellows, whites and reds is uplifting and depicts the ideal union between opposites - the beauty and order that comes with duality. The background shows the dawn which resembles fresh beginnings and a pastel sky that further feeds into the atmosphere of concord. Everything is exactly where it’s supposed to be.

Cartão 3 - Quatro de espadas

Há uma quietude silenciosa que está presente no Quatro de Espadas, uma sensação de paz calma que contrasta tão profundamente com a dor no Três de Espadas. Aqui, em uma igreja, há uma escultura de um cavaleiro que está sobre uma tumba com três espadas penduradas acima dele, enquanto a quarta está embaixo dele. Essas três espadas são um lembrete do sofrimento que ele sofreu na carta anterior. A posição da quarta espada parece ser um sinal de que a luta terminou. Uma criança e uma mulher são representadas pelo vitral atrás da estátua, dando à cena uma sensação de calor e acolhimento após o retiro. O cavaleiro está com as mãos posicionadas como se estivesse rezando.
